Samuel J. Muir

Samuel Muir practices primarily in the area of construction litigation with an emphasis on the representation of design professionals. It was 30 years ago when Sam was attracted to helping design professionals because of their tremendous creativity, substantial benefit to society and overall commitment to their respective clients. That attraction has led him through many jury trials, bench trials, binding arbitrations and mediations too numerous to count. As lead trial counsel and appellate attorney for the design professional in the landmark decision of Markborough v. Superior Court (1991) (Cal.App.3d 705), Mr. Muir argued successfully for the upholding the law allowing for limitation of liability clauses in construction contracts.

Sam enjoys giving back to both his professional and personal community in many ways. On the professional side, Sam is a frequent speaker to architectural associations such as the Los Angeles Chapter of the AIA and the Pasadena/Foothill Chapter of the AIA. Mr. Muir continues to speak at numerous engineering associations such as American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) and the former Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors of California (CELSOC), now ACEC California.

Outside of the legal and construction professions, Sam has enjoyed volunteering as a high school assistant baseball coach and as the head coach of a high school softball team. He has also served as the president of the Board of Directors of one of the most successful homeless shelters called Union Station. He has also served on the Vestry of All Saints Episcopal Church and continues to serve in various capacities within the Church.

Sam has served as a settlement officer and arbitrator for the Los Angeles Superior Courts and as a volunteer for the Los Angeles County Bar Association Pro Bono Counsel. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Pasadena Bar Association and the Association of the Southern California Defense Counsel. He is past president of the Pasadena Bar Association and past member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel. He continues to be an affiliate member of the Pasadena/Foothill Chapter of the AIA and a member of the Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors of California (CELSOC).

Sam earned his B.A. degree from Azusa Pacific University and his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School.
